German publication Kicker has provided a fresh update on Florian Wirtz and his reported move to Liverpool.

Wirtz’s move to Liverpool has been one of the major stories that have dominated the front pages of many German newspapers.

The 22-year-old is Germany’s best player, so his next move will understandably generate buzz in his home country, and indeed across Europe.

As a result, there have been constant updates on Wirtz’s transfer since the day the news first broke that Liverpool were interested in him.

A recent update that sent Liverpool fans in a frenzy was from Fabrizio Romano, who reported on Tuesday that Liverpool had reached a verbal agreement with Bayer Leverkusen for Florian Wirtz.

According to the reliable journalist: “Liverpool verbally agree deal in principle with Bayer Leverkusen for a package reaching €150m, add-ons included.”

“Player side already agreed two weeks ago with move now imminent.”

“Wirtz set for medical and contract signing.”

Shortly after his story, reliable journalist David Ornstein provided more clarification that sought to temper expectations.

The Athletic acknowledged that while Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen were indeed in the “final stages” of negotiations, no official deal had been struck.

“Negotiations between Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen over a deal taking Florian Wirtz to Anfield are in the final stages, with the clubs speaking daily as they try to reach an agreement,” Orstein wrote.

German publication Kicker (via Bayer04Xtra) has now added a fresh perspective to the reports, revealing that there is no final agreement between Liverpool and Leverkusen.

“At least until the editorial deadline of today’s kicker issue, no final agreement had yet been reached on the Florian Wirtz deal, which will be a package consisting of a fixed sum and easily and complicatedly achievable bonuses of up to €150m,” the report said.

While it appears that the reports from Ornstein and Kicker contradict Fabrizio Romano’s claim, it is important to note that the Italianian journalist only revealed that agreement has been ‘verbally’ done, as opposed being ‘formally’ done.

A verbal agreement suggests that both clubs have reached some measure of compromise, with final details left to be sorted our before a deal is made formal and official.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday German publication SZ reported that Wirtz’s medical is likely to be this week.
